Kansas Professional Real Estate Agent Requirements

There are a few basic steps in becoming a professional real estate agent in Kansas. These steps should be done in the order set out below.

Age and Fundamental Academic Necessities

Kansas requires all real estate agents to be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or the equivalent, such as a G.E.D.

Essential Pre-licensing Learning Time

To become a Kansas real estate agent, a 60-hour pre-license course must be completed. The course must be taken with an education provider that is approved by the Kansas Real Estate Commission.3

Both online real estate classes and in-person options are available for the coursework to allow for flexible course completion. The 60-hour course is divided into 2 separate parts.

Part 1 includes 30 hours of coursework around general principles of real estate. Part 2 includes 30 hours of coursework focused specifically on the practice of real estate in Kansas.

The course is designed to help with real estate agent skills that are necessary for compliant and successful practice.

Investment Required for Real Estate School Pre-License Course

The Kansas real estate school pre-license course costs on average about $85 to $300.

This cost depends on what options are selected, and if there are any add-ons, such as practice exams, one-on-one assistance, or guarantees that the student will pass the real estate licensing exam on the first try.

Cheaper, more budget-friendly options are available that offer just the required basics of coursework and lessons.

A time investment of about 3 to 6 months on average is required for the Kansas real estate school pre-license course.

This will depend on individual factors such as whether an in-person option is selected, or if a self-paced online version is selected, and how much time the individual can dedicate towards the coursework.

Prescribed Background Check for Real Estate Professionals (Fingerprinting Facility Locations)

Kansas requires a background check with fingerprinting to be completed as part of obtaining a real estate license.4

How far back does a real estate background check go will depend on the state. In Kansas, 7 years of history is checked.

The Background Waiver form REL-150 must be printed and taken to a fingerprinting location as part of the background check.5
